Individual Music Therapy Services

Through 1:1 music therapy, the following needs can be addressed:
  • Gross and fine motor skills
  • Social skills
  • Speech, language, and communication skills
  • Emotional regulation, management of emotions, and coping skills
  • Recreation and leisure skills
  • Self-expression and creativity development

Music therapy sessions may include:
  • Singing or vocalizing and active music making with a variety of instruments
  • Movement to music
  • Song writing, composing and lyric analysis
  • Drumming and percussion playing

AR Music Therapy serves individuals with, but not limited to:
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Brain injuries
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Developmental, cognitive, and physical delays or disabilities
  • Memory care

About Sessions:
  • Individual  music therapy sessions are tailored to the specific needs of the individual.  Every music therapy session can be different because the therapist responds in a unique way according to the creative direction and needs within each session.

    Sessions can be scheduled bi-weekly, weekly or more frequently for 30, 45, 60 or 90 minute sessions.

Music Lessons & Classes

AR Music Therapy believes in meeting every student where they are in the learning process, and together with the student, creating and reaching personalized musical goals.  Lessons may include traditional and/or modified playing techniques such as:
  • Use of task analysis to break down instruction into smaller steps
  • Experiencing rhythm patterns through movement, singing, or drumming 
  • Use of color-coded or adapted notation
  • Use of open tunings
  • Emphasis on aural learning and improvisation
  • Music games and activities to reinforce learning
  • Focus on preferred songs and types of music

Music Classes:
Individualized or group music classes can be designed based on interests or for those who wish to explore or learn more about a specific kind of music, history, composition, recording, musical exploration, etc.

Presentations & Workshops

Consulting, presentations and workshops at your site or online.
AR Music Therapy offers consulting for:
  • parents and caregivers who would like to be more educated about how they can use music to help those they care for
  • staff of healthcare, schools and other facilities who would like to learn more about how they can help those they work with
  •  teams who need help being unified and bringing their best selves to their clients
Are you interested in a workshop/presentation for a support group, parent organization or advisory council? Maybe a staff development event, in-service or other educational opportunity?
